Christian’s breakthrough came with Potters Corner, the horse that propelled his training career into the spotlight. Potters Corner earned an impressive £226,000 in prize money, highlighted by victories in both the Welsh National and the Midlands National in 2019. He continued to compete admirably in cross-country events and narrowly missed a big success at Cheltenham in 2021 before retiring in the winter of 2022 to enjoy a well-deserved quieter life with Harriet Tudor.

While horses of Potters Corner’s calibre are rare, Christian has shown that his success was no one-off. The 2021/22 season marked a major milestone — less than five years after training his first winner, his yard celebrated 34 winners and more than £659,000 in prize money. That season he landed the Vertem Eider Chase with Win My Wings and, moments later, took the Coral Trophy with a 1-2 finish from Cap du Nord and Kitty’s Light. He then followed up with another stunning 1-2 finish in Scotland’s premier jumps race, The Coral Scottish Grand National, courtesy of Win My Wings and Kitty’s Light.

Christian’s forward-thinking approach and meticulous planning have continued to deliver. In the following season his horses secured more big wins — including The LK Bennett Swinley Handicap Chase with Cap du Nord, and a remarkable sequence in which Kitty’s Light won the Vertem Eider Chase, the Coral Scottish Grand National, and just seven days later the Bet365 Gold Cup.

These results reflect not only the talent of the horses but Christian’s ability to prepare and execute race plans with precision, cementing his reputation as one of the leading trainers in modern British racing.

The following season, Kitty’s Light took us all on an unforgettable journey to the Grand National. Simply qualifying for the race was a remarkable achievement in itself, but he went one better with a brilliant fifth-place finish, emerging as the highest-placed British-trained runner in the field. It was a performance that showcased his toughness, consistency, and class on the biggest stage of all.

Every National Hunt trainer dreams of sending runners to the sport’s greatest festivals — Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown — where the very best compete on the biggest stages. Last season, we travelled to Aintree with just one runner, the progressive Deep Cave, and placed our faith firmly in him. That single chance proved to be the one that mattered most. Delivering a superb performance to land the opening race on Grand National Day under Jack Tudor.
