Experience, Horsemanship, and a Long-Term Approach

Christian Williams Racing is built on experience, patience and a deep understanding of the racehorse.

Led by Christian Williams, the yard focuses on training horses as individuals, communicating openly with owners, and creating an environment where horses can develop both physically and mentally. The emphasis is on longevity, welfare, and giving every horse the best possible chance to fulfil its potential.

Christian Williams

Christian’s career in racing began long before he became a trainer. A successful former jockey, he rode at the highest level of the sport, gaining invaluable experience with a wide range of horses, trainers and training methods. Amongst his many successes, Christian enjoyed Grade One victory on Noland, holds a perfect 3-3 on Gold Cup winner Denman and was also a gallant runner-up on Royal Auclair in the 2005 Grand National. That time in the saddle shaped his understanding of the science of the horse, the importance of patience and timing, and what separates short term results from long term success.

After retiring from race riding, Christian made the natural progression to training, bringing with him a practical, horse-first philosophy and a calm, straightforward way of working with owners and staff alike.

A Trainer’s Philosophy

Christian believes that horses thrive when they are understood, not rushed. Every horse in his care is trained as an individual, with programmes tailored to their physical development, temperament, and stage of career. Decisions are made with the horse’s welfare at the centre. This approach is particularly important with young and developing horses, where confidence, routine, and correct education form the foundation for future success.

Training at Ogmore Farm

Horses at Christian Williams Racing are trained at Ogmore Farm, a setting that plays a central role in the yard’s philosophy. The natural facilities include beaches, sand dunes, river crossings and grass gallops in quiet, open surroundings. This varied terrain helps horses build strength, balance and mental resilience, while keeping them relaxed and engaged in their work - something we are very passionate about.

Our Team

Christian admits nothing would be possible without the support around him, alongside his wife Charlotte and daughters Tilly & Betsy, he is backed up by a wonderful team of enthusiastic, talented and dedicated individuals. The team is headed by Assistant Trainers Nicky Williams and Lee Stephens, and Head Girl Ellie Jefferson.

Christian gets a lot of pleasure out of watching them grow and develop, and is very passionate about supporting them.

Owners at the Centre

Clear communication and accessibility are fundamental to how the yard operates. Owners are kept fully informed with regular, high quality updates, and opportunities to visit the yard and attend race days. Their involvement in the yard is very much encouraged through visiting the yard, going racing and chatting to Christian on the phone. Christian believes owners should feel confident in the decisions being made, whether they are experienced racehorse owners or completely new to the sport.
